Feature on channels TV
This is about a project I facilitated through my writing and storytelling prowess: The rehabilitation of a mentally challenged family of five (father, mother, and three children) who had been living in a deranged situation for over a decade in their village Ukpah local government area, in Cross River State, Nigeria.
After discovering the family during my NYSC year in 2018, I began independent research into their life, and upon gathering enough information after 9 months of investigation, I wrote an article about them which ended up creating a viral sensation globally across newspapers, Channels TV, Radio stations, and other international media.
Because of this story, I was contacted by the Nigerian Federal Government through the Ministry of Health, and the family was taken off the streets and rehabilitated with all the support they needed including Education, housing, and wellbeing support.
Through my writing, I was able to bring about a life-changing opportunity for the family.
Writing this story also earned me a few awards:
- The Investigative Journalist of the Year Award by the Editorial and Publicity team of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nigeria, for my Writing and storytelling prowess
- An Award for Humanitarian Care
- Appointed as the Ambassador for Mental Health Care in Nigeria by The Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria (APN)
