MY CHILD
They could not afford the cost of education for the child back in the village so they allowed you carry her to the “City” with the promise that you’ll fend for her and send her to school.
She got to your home and at once plans changed!
She wakes up by 4am to make sure that hot water is ready on fire for your children who are old enough to birth her.
She dares not leave the water boiling, she has to standby and watch it.
She’s made to go to the market and buy items for cooking
And when she comes back she does all manner of cooking, she’ll pound the “banga”, and grind the much pepper with the local stone.
Breakfast is 8am but hers is always brunch.
She’s not permitted to sit on the chairs in the sitting room. Are there chairs in her father’s house in the village?
After a ceremony in the house where lots of visitors finish eating, she’s meant to do all the dishes, as numerous as they are, even if it’ll take her till midnight to finish, she’ll remain there while your children remain on their beds chitchatting with their phones.📱
She doesn’t dare sit in the parlor where others are sitting, is she mad?
You’ll never find her watching Tv 📺 in the sitting room, Auntie will just kill her!
There’s a gas cooker in the house but she’s meant to cook with firewood, afterall that’s the life she’s used to in the village.
She’s the first to wake up and the last to go to bed, she doesn’t dream of sleeping if she hasn’t finished all her duties in the house.
She makes sure the gate, doors and windows are securely locked, she dares not forget!
She had something on the fire and while watching it, one of the daughters ordered her to go get something for her down the street, she came back and discovered the food was already burning, Auntie came exclaiming “OMG You burnt my food”? (No room for explanation) After beating her to stupor, -“No food for you in this house for 3days, if I catch you chewing anything I will kill you”!
It’s a 3bedroom apartment but she’s meant to sleep on the bare cold tiles whether or not the rooms are empty.
She’s only 9yrs old but her multitasking abilities is amazing, she runs errands at the same time does dishes and monitor what’s cooking on fire.
Now she’s no longer growing, she has stunted growth.
Have you washed the car? I want to go out, Oya hurry up! but there are adults in the house.
She has only one pant, na “Wash and Wear”.
She attends a public school and because of all the chores in the house, she’ll go to school by 11am during break time and ends up taking strokes of the cane from teachers as a perpetual late comer.
She has never made an “A” in school because no time to study hence she’s called “OLODO”!
A visitor came and asked “Why isn’t she in school”?
-Oh, that one, don’t mind her jare, what is she going to school for when she doesn’t know anything, she’s too dumb Abeg”. Auntie answered.
After a long day, She was found “Stand-sleeping”, in the kitchen and got a sound slap because of that, “How dare you sleep while you’re cooking”!
“So you didn’t wash those clothes I soaked in the bathroom? No school for you tomorrow until you finish the laundry. Nonsense!
The last child that stayed with her ran away from the house because she had had enough! She was merely 12yrs old, she couldn’t trace her paths, She ended up in he streets of cold and cruelty, now she’s roaming the streets pregnant 🤰 Oh what a tragedy!
A child bearing a child!
You take somebody’s child into your house and begin to enslave them thinking you’re doing their parents a favor, hmmmm, it’s a pity. That slave today might become king tomorrow. What goes around comes around, Wait for it!
