CAB CONSCIOUSNESS

Those of you that’ll take a cab or Uber or public transport, and block your ears with earphones, seriously slamming music without paying attention to what is being discussed in the vehicle, calls made by the driver or signs along the journey- whether long or short; Be careful!

That song you’re listening to, you have played it before, you can play it later when you get home. Don’t be carried away!
Forming a tush guy or posh babe; Pressing your phone throughout the entire journey and chatting consistently is a risk itself.

This life is too short for you to be shut out of your environment or be oblivious of what ought to be obvious! Things are happening my dear, take caution! Instead of listening to music with an earpiece, most times I explore other ways to enjoy my journey. Especially when it’s an Uber or a cab, where I’m alone with the driver – a total stranger!

I rather initiate a chat, by first asking about his welfare or about work for the day, or his family.

Say something like:
– “Oga Weldon o”,
-‘How’s your day going’,
– “How work today”,
– “How’s the family”. etc.

From there you can bring up a conversation about a trending story, the government, the economy etc.

But be careful of saying what you’re not supposed to say. Don’t get carried away and start talking about your salary, or how rich you are, or give sensitive details about yourself. Simply maintain a semi-formal conversation, das all!

Chat and laugh, but not too loud; so he can as well focus on the journey.
That way, you would have penetrated him in a kind way, thereby possibly killing whatever evil intentions he had before the journey.

Genuine kindness saves a lot!

I recall my experience with an Uber driver, we chatted and laughed along, he was so glad, and after dropping me off, mentioned that he regrets picking some boring passengers, who will have on their earphones throughout the journey, and would scream and scold him at the slightest while driving. He added that he hadn’t had any passenger like me since he started his job.

You dunno who is driving you, so just be nice; some of you will just lock up, totally focused on your phone, to the extent that when he’s driving off your destination you may not even realize.

If the driver eventually kidnaps you, you are responsible for your own kidnap.
Be vigilant! Take note of signs and landmarks especially if you’re new to the environment.

Ask questions about where you are at the moment, which route it is (if he seems to be taking an unfamiliar route), demand to know why he chose to pass that way Instead, even if you’re not the only passenger in the vehicle; don’t be afraid, don’t be shy.

But don’t let him deduce that you’re a rookie in the hood, or “you nor know road”. Always act smart and think sharp!

Be wise!

Feel free to share! You just might be saving somebody!
